San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

We had one day in San Juan del Sur to enter Nicaragua, pick up Mitch Heath and Nicole Muscroft, and exit Nicaragua.

San Juan del Sur

We got up early to ensure that we got everything done as immigration is closed for the next 2 days as it was the weekend.

We were about to leave when the police motored over to tell us to move our boat.  A cruise ship was coming into the bay and we were in the middle of the shuttle route between the cruise ship and the dock.

While pulling up the anchor,  my focus was on the 30 knots of wind and the other boats,  and I over powered the electrical wench.  We then had to manually pull up and lower the anchor.   Not a good start.

After moving the boat,  we hailed a pongo to take us to shore as the waves were too big to use our dinghy.

We easily found the port captain.   However, immigration was dealing with the cruise ship and wouldn't be available for several hours.

So we met up with Nicole and Mitch and had some breakfast.  Immigration was still not available.   So we got fresh vegetables and some beer for next leg of our voyage.  We picked up Nicole and Mitch's bags.  At 2 pm, immigration was available.  So we did our formal entry and exit at the same time.   We checked out with the port captain by 3 pm.

Justin waited with our stuff at the dock while Mitch, Nicole, and I checked out the merchandise stands.  We brought Justin back a hotdog and a cold beer.   After a quick bite, we grabbed a ponga back to sail boat.

We packed up the boat and put up a strong wind jib sail (90 % sail).  Mitch pulled up the anchor while Justin steered.   I then steered us in circles in the sheltered bay while Mitch and Justin got the sails up.  We were on our way out by sunset.
