Fajardo, Puerto Rico to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

We left Fajardo, Puerto Rico at sunset of the 20th of April.   We ate pizza and chocolate cake as we motored out.

We divided the night into 3 hr shifts.   Anthony took the shift of 6 pm until 9pm.  My shift was 9 pm until 12 am.  Justin took the next 3 hours.  Warwick took the twilight hours of 3 am until 6 am.  The last shift of 6 am until 9 am went to Mireille.  The remaining 9 hours of daylight was split informally.

We had 15 to 20 knots of wind for the first 24 hours.  The boat was averaging 6 to 6.5 knots with an additional knot of current.  The ride was very comfortable for the most part as we were traveling downwind.  However, the boat was rocking side to side due to the swells, creating a washing machine motion, which left Warwick, Anthony, and Mireille dealing with upset stomachs.

Warwick on watch

On the 21st, Justin and I read up on Turks and Caicos to develop a game plan.  Warwick introduced us to a new card game called Skip-Bo.  I sorted out some photos and did some yoga.  The boys played chess.  Mireille studied for her anatomy exam.

On the 22nd, Warwick started trolling for fish. Anthony made us bacon and eggs for breakfast.  We got up to 32 knots of wind.  And for the most part, everyone had gotten over their sea sickness by the end of the day.  At the end of Justin's shift, the main halyard broke, and we had to sail with the jib only afterwards.  However, we were still traveling at 6.5 to 7 knots.

On the morning of the 23rd, Mireille pulled in a Mahi Mahi, that was about 80 cm long, and let it go before anyone else got to see it, much to the disappointment of Warwick and Anthony.  Later in the day, we determined that we couldn't make our port before nightfall, and we would have to drive in circles waiting for the marina to open.   Instead, we made anchor just before dinner at the Tiki Hut Anchorage located on the west end of Providenciales.  Anthony,  Mireille, and Warwick took the kayak to shore to explore the beach and snorkel.  Justin and I made dinner.   Mireille made mojitos.   We finished the night playing cards.  Mireille introduced us to the card game called 6 Qui Prend.  Everyone got an uninterrupted nights sleep.

Justin and Anthony got the boat underway mid morning on the 24th.  We sailed to the Blue Haven Marina, located on the East Coast of Providenciales.  Due to the shallow entrance, we needed a pilot boat to guide us into the marina.
